What is it that makes us so reluctant to open up and speak kindly about others?
Why do I feel I need to praise Leonard: at this time? Perhaps because I took him for granted and did not acknowledge his powerful influence upon me.
Here it is:
Leonard, as a fellow Montrealer I have walked the same streets, felt the same pain, felt like an outsider, connected with you through your novels, poetry and songs. Although we never met in person, you let me know your deepest thoughts and feelings. You taught me how to be honest, helped me in my search for truth and showed me that talent and humility can exist side-by-side.
You have been my teacher, rarely providing answers but asking the questions that have helped make me who I am today.
Thank you, dear Leonard, what you leave behind will last forever.
